Faculty of Social Science

Faculty of Social Science

The Faculty of Social Science encompasses a broad range of disciplines from law to history to public administration. The promotion of social sciences, as intellectually rigorous and also relevant in the future growth of Cambodia, is a key aim for the faculty.

Notably, this faculty provides a framework within which students may explore different approaches to law using interdisciplinary resources; these are applied in local, as well as international and comparative, perspectives.

In order to response the need of society, this faculty aims to build the capacity of students to analyze organizational behavior and provide technical responses in both the public and private sector.  Thus, a Bachelor of Arts in this faculty degree opens up many career opportunities in government, the mass media, and NGOs which require critical thinking, research and an understanding of contemporary society.

As in all other faculties, the Faculty of Social Science is committed to achieving international parity in the content and standard of its courses. However, in subjects such as law, political science and history, students have the opportunity to embrace uniquely Cambodian content. In this faculty it is especially important to ground knowledge in global theory and practice, while providing a national perspective.

The Faculty of Social Science strives to equip students with critical thinking skills with which to engage in research and study. Students graduate with a strong educational foundation, from which they are able to pursue a wide range of career choices.

Law Major

The Law Major covers a wide range of topics to familiarize students with many types of Cambodian law. At the end of this program, students interested in entering the law profession have a strong foundation for further legal training. Students who are not interested in practicing law are able to put this degree to use in policy creation and education contexts.

Public Administration Major

The Public Administration Major provides an academic background for individuals pursuing a career in both government and nongovernmental organizations. Public Administration studies how administrators enact and implement policy at the local, regional and national levels.

Political Science Major

The Political Science Major studies government and public policy and the political behavior of individuals and groups. This degree is designed to expose students to the philosophical and practical problems of political organization, action, and governance. Students are encouraged to think critically about the nature of citizenship, rights and duties in the modern world.

Legal Studies Major

The Legal Studies Major is designed to provide students with legal expertise in business and commercial law. Commercial law, especially involving contractual agreements, property law, title deeds, intellectual property, royalties, taxation, bankruptcy, bringing matters to court, and independent jurisprudence, are all relatively new in Cambodia. However, these are essential for a democratic political system and a market economy to function. Graduates will have career opportunities in advocacy and case management, an exciting and important area for Cambodian professionals to develop.

Geography Major

The Geography Major is designed to study how space on the earth’s surface is placed and used. The relationships between the earth and its people and between culture and environment are studied. Students are instructed in agricultural productivity, urban housing, waste disposal, environmental quality, and the value of land and real estate.

History Major

The History Major aims to instruct students in the application of research skills to conceive and execute original historical research and to present it in a compelling written format. This major is designed to provide students with access to the whole world, not only the past, but also the present that has emerged from that past.
