Master of Commerce

Master of Commerce (MCom)

For students interested in specializing in one particular area, the Masters of Commerce (MCom) is an attractive option. The MCom has the same selection of mainstream subjects as the MBA, but allows students to study a specialization in-depth through a research dissertation. This option is particularly relevant to practitioners in specific fields of business looking to specialize in an area that gives added value to their portfolio of expertise. The MCom is structured to include any eight subjects taken from the MBA degree program, only one of which – Organizational Behavior – is compulsory, followed by a four subject-equivalent dissertation on a research topic and methodology to be agreed upon with the IIC Graduate Program.

The topic selected for research will be related to student’s professional and intellectual interests in areas such as human resource management, banking and finance, management of information systems, managerial leadership, organizational change and development, logics, procurement, tourism, international business, business communication, training and professional development, public sector reform, accounting, marketing, public relations, and micro- or macroeconomics. Expertise to properly supervise the research, including guided instruction on research methodologies, within the academic and professional interests of faculty members will be a determining factor in both topic and methodology selection.

The IIC University of Technology places considerable emphasis upon research and development and is therefore very pleased to offer a degree which allows students to specialize in a particular field by doing research. As distinct from the MBA degree, students completing the MCom will graduate with a specialization in their chosen field.
